Entering Order Choice Abbreviations
When placing an order, you may
run into problems if your facility uses profiles. There are certain characters that you should not use in
order choice abbreviations. Also, order choices may appear to be sorted
incorrectly if your facility uses spaces in front of abbreviations to
control the sort order.
- Using Profiles
On the Order Samples: Patient & Order Choices page, the order
choice abbreviations that you enter in the Items to Order field
must be unique. When you manually enter profiles in the field and then enter additional order choices, there is a possibility that there will be duplicate tests between the profiles and order choices you enter. This can cause problems with including the correct order choices.
Because of this, if you are manually entering profiles in the Items to Order field, you MUST enter the profile first in the Items
to Order field, and THEN select additional order choices using
the Order Items page.
Note that if you click the P button on the Order Samples: Patient & Order Choices page to enter profiles in the Order Samples: Order Profiles page, this potential conflict will not occur.
- Special Characters in Abbreviations
Harvest Webstation will accept ampersands (&), slashes (/), periods
(.), and hyphens (-) as characters in order choice abbreviations,
but it will NOT accept commas (,) or apostrophes ('). It treats a
comma or apostrophe in the abbreviation text as an order choice separator,
and parses it into multiple order choices.
See the Harvest online help for more information on creating
order choice abbreviations.
- Using Spaces with Abbreviations
The order choice abbreviations cannot contain spaces, unless the
space has been entered in front of the abbreviation to control the
sort order.
Order choice names are sometimes entered into the system with a space
in front of them (e.g., " CBC" in stead of "CBC").
The space is added to force commonly used order choices to the beginning
of the alphabetically sorted list in the Order Samples: Order Items
page.
In these cases, you must type the space in front of the name that
you are entering in the Items to Order field on the Order Samples:
Patient & Order Choices page. If you do not include the space,
Harvest Webstation will not recognize your entry. If you select one
of these order choices from the Order Samples: Order Items page,
then the space will be included automatically.
Because the added space brings those entries to the top of the list,
the list in the Order Samples: Order Items page may appear to be
sorted incorrectly. However, the order choices with spaces before
their names should appear above the order choices under the normal
alphabetical order.
